Tanzplattform Deutschland 2028
The Real Dance Festival in Hanover will host Tanzplattform Deutschland in 2028, which presents current developments and innovative trends in contemporary dance from Germany every two years. In February 2028, the platform will be organised by the Real Dance Festival, an event by the Niedersächsisches Staatstheater Hannover GmbH, in cooperation with other cultural institutions in Hanover.
The Tanzplattform in Hanover aims to place dance as a space for thinking and action at the centre of focus in order to foster professional and artistic exchange and at the same time offer an inclusive festival that appeals to audiences. A jury, whose members not only come from different contexts and regions, but also possess expertise in different styles of dance from contemporary to classic and urban, will choose one outstanding dance production that was created in Germany between September 2025 and August 2027 for Tanzplattform 2028.
Jury Tanzplattform Deutschland 2028
Members of the jury are: Sophie Becker (artistic and festival director of SPIELART Festival Munich), Canan Erek (dancer, choreographer, curator of Tanz! Heilbronn Festival, as well as co-founder and artistic director of PURPLE – International Dance Festival for Young Audiences), Roisin Keßler (cultural educator, inclusion and accessibility advisor for dance and theatre, diversity development officer at the Federal Association of Independent Performing Arts), Saïdo Lehlouh (choreographer, dancer, curator and co-director of the choreography centre in Rennes, Bretagne) and Atabey fka Carlos Maria Romero (dance worker and curator at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt). For the Real Dance Festival, artistic director Melanie Zimmermann and dramaturge Charlotte Pfingsten will share one vote.
About Tanzplattform Deutschland
Tanzplattform Deutschland sees itself as a forum for presenting current developments and innovative trends in contemporary dance in and from Germany. Tanzplattform was founded in 1994 by Nele Hertling, Walter Heun and Dieter Buroch, and started as a trilogy in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Since then, it has taken place biannually in different German cities. Each time, the group of co-organisers decides on the future host and supporting institution. The group of co-organisers includes all the institutions who have hosted Tanzplattform in the past and who are actively committed to promoting contemporary dance in Germany.

Submissions for Tanzplattform Deutschland 2028
Artists, choreographers and companies can submit their work from now on. The works must have had/have their world premiere between September 2025 and August 2027.

The Real Dance Festival is a Niedersächsisches Staatstheater Hannover GmbH event and is funded by the City of Hanover, the Foundation of Lower Saxony and the Lower Saxony Ministry for Science and Culture. Tanzplattform Deutschland 2028 is also funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media, and receives flagship financing from the Foundation of Lower Saxony and financing from the City of Hanover.
