The first edition of the Real Dance Festival took place in Hanover from 24 to 28 January 2024. For five days, choreographies from India, Iran, Austria, Portugal, France, and Germany were presented on the stages of the Hanover State Theatre and the Kunstverein Hannover. The festival programme celebrated the international diversity of dance, showcasing a variety of styles and genres, from contemporary dance to hip-hop and voguing.

Guests included Saïdo Lehlouh, Mandeep Raikhy, Tiago Manquinho & Manuela Bolegu, Marga Alfeirão, Parisa Madani & Maurice Werner, Ulduz Ahmadzadeh / عطش ATASH عطش contemporary dance company.

The festival centre at Ballhof Eins brought together audiences and artists, as well as the contemporary dance scene in Lower Saxony and the international ballroom community, for panel discussions, parties and Hanover's biggest kiki ball.

The Real Dance Festival took place in Hanover from 28 January to 2 February 2025. Spread over six days, stage productions, films, workshops, discussions and parties were held at the Hanover State Theatre and the Kestner Gesellschaft. This second edition of the festival showcased the entire spectrum of dance, from high art to community dance. The international diversity of dance was brought to Hanover by inviting both world-famous companies and newcomers.

Guests included: Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Radouan Mriziga / Rosas, A7LA5, Mónica García Vicente & Irving Villegas, Afrang Nordlöf Malekian & Sepideh Khodarahmi, Dynamic Legends, Miss Rose, Damion BG, Dj Pappi, eye juice, Kaybuurr Ovadose, Tamara Alegre, Michael Turinsky, Idio Chichava, Afrang Nordlöf Malekian & Sepideh Khodarahmi.

The foyer of Ballhof Eins became the festival center and meeting place for audiences and artists. There, visitors could reserve appointments at the pop-up nail bar, watch films by international dance professionals, and participate in networking events for the Hanover dance scene.
