danceable – workshops for visually impaired & blind dancers and participants
Cara Rother / Tanzpunkt Hannover
This series of workshops is an invitation to all blind and visually impaired people who are interested in dance. Dancer and dance teacher Cara Rother offers four workshop sessions in which participants can learn the basics of dance and thus perceive the body through movement and music. For this purpose, she uses set exercises from dance improvisation as well as contemporary and modern dance. From small, gentle movements to large, powerful steps, various possibilities are explored while taking into account the individual limitations and wishes of all participants.
In addition, workshop participants are offered an exclusive follow-up discussion with the Artistic Director of the Real Dance Festival, Melanie Zimmermann. The conversation will take place directly after the group visit to the performance Mixed Bill by A.I.M by Kyle Abraham with audio description on 29 JAN in the foyer of the Schauspielhaus.
The workshops are aimed at all blind and visually impaired people aged 12 and over, with or without dance experience, as well as their companions and assistance dogs. The workshops do not build on one another and can be booked individually. Registration is handled through the VHS Hannover. Detailed information and registration at www.vhs-hannover.de. Or by email to kultur.vhs@hannover-stadt.de or by phone at +49 511 168 44373.
Cara Rother, co-founder of Tanzpunkt Hannover, is an important representative of dance in the state capital and is well connected in both the contemporary and ballet scene. She has been working as a freelance dance teacher and dancer in northern Germany since 2018. In 2023, she completed a one-year training programme with “Ballett für Blinde” in Hamburg and has since expanded her teaching practice to include work with visually impaired people. Her central aim is to make dance accessible and tangible. She wants to give people the opportunity to use dance as a form of personal expression, to feel part of a community, and to be moved in every sense.
